The Challenge
Every resident deserves to feel safe in their home and neighborhood. But public safety isn't just about policingit's about addressing the root causes of crime and building trust between residents and law enforcement.
My Plan
Community-Based Policing
- Support community policing initiatives that put officers in neighborhoods, building relationships with residents
- Advocate for increased officer training in de-escalation and mental health crisis response
- Support civilian oversight of law enforcement
- Increase transparency in police department operations
Address Root Causes
- Invest in youth programs that provide positive alternatives to gang involvement
- Support mental health services and crisis intervention teams
- Fund substance abuse treatment programs
- Address blight and abandoned properties that attract crime
Emergency Preparedness
- Improve coordination between emergency services
- Invest in disaster preparedness and response capabilities
- Support community emergency response teams (CERT)
- Modernize emergency communication systems
My Record
As a City Council member, I created a community policing initiative that paired officers with neighborhood associations. The program improved trust between residents and police while reducing crime in participating neighborhoods.
